I went to the junkyard today, where only one week ago I discovered the 8-inch rearend in a '76 Mercury Marquis (basically a Granada). They wanted $70 for it. Well the car is still there, but the rearend was gone. It really pisses me off because I finally made the decision to buy it for my Maverick, to widen the track a little. I mean, who the hell buys a rearend for a Granada anyway?? I doubt it was anyone who was planning to put it in a Maverick. The other Granada there had some other rearend (not an 8-inch) with a removable cover. :banghead: Oh well, have to find another one, I guess...

It's an inch or so wider. That's the only difference. Other than that, it's the same rearend...

Hate to rub salt in the wound TL, but I can't help thinking that someone bought it to shorten it.

Maybe you can get in touch with them and swap... OK maybe that's unlikely. ;)

This dosent happen to me anymore because it always happened to me long ago. Now, if I see it, if I like it, if its a price I'm willing to pay, I buy it on the spot.

I found 2 primo front fenders in a u-pull it yard a while back. I didn't have the money on me and I figured all I have to do is come back on Monday. As I was leaving 2 guys, in a primered Maverick, are pulling in the lot. The "what are the chances" thought crossed my mind. WELL, you can guess the rest. Monday morning-----GONE!!!!

Sad to say, if you find decent Maverick parts in the junkyard and don't grab them on the spot, chances are they will be gone the next time you visit the yard. We have a large salvage yard about 20 miles from us that gets Mavericks and Comets brought in from time to time. It just blows me away at how fast those cars get stripped. All the good parts are removed and the rest is busted up and destroyed. It really tics me off to see perfectly good interior parts from the dashes broken into little pieces. I found out an outfit from out west is sending tractor trailers to the big salvage yards here and stripping as many of the older cars they can find and loading the parts in the trailers. Then the parts are taken back out west and from there are shipped out of state. I think that really sucks. They are making it next to impossible to find decent parts locally. The junkyards don't care because it's money in thier pockets. I don't know if that's happening at junkyards everywhere or not, but I recommend grabbing what parts you can find as soon as you can.

A lot of mexicans that don't speak english, frequent this particular yard. I heard that they buy parts and send them back to Mexico...

    Hey Jean Doll

You're not refering to Harry's U-Pull-It in Hazleton, are you? That's where I do a lot of my digging. 15 miles from me.

Nope, I've never been there. I see thier ads on TV a lot but have never made it up there. The yard I go to is call Eazy Pull in New Ringgold. It's nowhere near as big as Harry's and it's all downhill. Of coarse that means it's a bear dragging all the parts uphill again.:) Where are you located? You sound like you don't live too far from me.

Opps! Never mind. I see you are from Mountain Top, Pa. Have you ever gone to any of the car shows in the Wilkes-Barrie, Scranton area?

Mountaintop is 5 miles south of Wilkes-Barre. Route 309 runs right through it.

My problem with the car shows is that by the time I remember that there is a show, I've missed it. I'm going to try to get to more this year.
