I probably don't have the correct terminology but what I am looking for is a loose approximation of the distance between steering knuckles (where the tie rod bolts through) on the spindles. I'm trying to work out a good sizse for a rack and pinion to source. I'm planning on ditching the factory box and fabbing up a mount and steering linkage for a rack.

Pinto racks are 45" OAL and I can get one brand new for under $100. How hard could it really be to make the mounts and get the geometry right. I just need to make sure the rack is the same steering configuration (rear steer).

Anybody willing to take a measurement for me or have the number off the top of their head?

Referring back to a post I made when rebuilding my front suspension, it's approx 44"...

A Pinto rack CANNOT be used .Its a front steer rack .You are going to need a rear steer rack . You can check with 55 crown vic on this board he has the info you need.
