This is for my 200 ci 1 bbl Carter. A Couple of years ago I bought a rebuilt carburetor because my old one was having too many problems. Lately now I have been having problems of hesitation and tough starting so thinking it was either the fuel float or accelerator pump i took the top of the carb off (called the air horn?) to check and also got a new fuel filter while i was at it. After checking and reassembling i drove it around the block and smelled a fuel leak. Fuel filter looked to be leaking so I installed the old one and realized it would not fully snug down. Now the fuel filter will just spin on the threads and wont come out. I would have just used my old carb for parts if it wasn't stolen a couple months ago with a bunch of my other extra parts. My questions are, is there a way for me to fix this, is there a place that sells just the top of the carb ( i doubt it), or will I need to buy a whole new rebuilt carb again?

my 200cid 1 barrel is also horrible with hesitation and missing like symptoms. ive narrowed it down to this and replaced everything else when i bought the car. i rebuilt the carb and it ran perfect for 2 days then it started hesitating again on take off and during hwy speed. i think the spray pump is weak in the new kits and it broke already. the damn thing was flimsy as hell even new out of the box.

do you know the specific model for that holley or any other types that will work? im starting to find that carters are not the most compliant so i might just convert.

They are easy to build , awsome in the power band, cheep rebuild kits. You will need to design a custom air filter, or cold air intake. Dont under size the air filter!

If you buy one of these holleys make sure the metal bowl edge is not bent around the ears! It comes from overtightening the bowl bolts. Look these up on google images for air filter adapters.

yeah the rebuilt 1946 models are the same price as the carters and seem to be easier to find parts for. I found a site that said you can get almost 30 mpg with it too. Since my car is a daily driver and need something to get around town in i put quiksteel around the filter. i let it set all day and looks to be holding very well so when driving ill keep an eye on it to make sure it wont leak. its a very temporary fix though until i have the cash for another carb.

I put the carb back together and was even worst than before i took it apart. when it was idling for more than 15 seconds it would start to shutter and quit. i would have to hold the pedal to the floor just to start it again. I took the top off again and looks like the problem was at the fuel inlet before the float needle had a bunch of gunk in it. i blew it all out from both the inlet and fuel filter side and no hesitation now.

as i said earlier, mine ran fine after a rebuild for a day or two, then it started acting up again. ive cleaned it out several times since and it was spotless upon opening it up. now 4 months later it takes me about 20 tries to finally get it to start firing off a few missed turns. then after another 10 or so sputtering/dying it stars and idles like crap for about 5 minutes before i can finally drive. thank god its not my daily driver, but all will be changed when i get my 302 put in, but id still like to figure this out. all fuel related parts/firing parts are new. even have the petronix points replacement in it so as to eliminate any bad points gaping. it runs the same with points also.

Run a fuel filter before the fuel pump and one at the carb I use cheap clear ones from Walmart if you have never replaced the gas tank 40 years of crud laying in the tank will cause problems get a manual and adjust the choke carb cars run like crap until they warm up
