'Just curious what the general consensus is here.
For timing covers & waterpumps; do you prefer Gasgacinch, or RTV?

Gaskicinch is great stuff for the old cheap paper gaskets. RTV is also great when used properly. Unfortunately.. many don't use it properly which leads to the excess ending up in oil filters/galleys and even leads to valvetrain restrictions. And using it with cheap gaskets can also add more leak paths after the gaskets become oil soaked over time. Gaskicinch isn't as bad in that same regard.

Another trick for successfully using RTV with gaskets.. and especially in gasketless apps is to apply minimally to BOTH SURFACES.. very important step the ensure perfect adhesion of seal to both surfaces.. and then only mock parts together at about a quarter to half amount of final torque spec. This prevents excessive squeeze out during the curing period.. 24 hrs minimum but usually about 48 hours.. and has a secondary benefit of allowing more bolt torque retention due to the added gasket/seal compression affect(acts like a spring). Then add loctite or thread sealer to bolts/holes and apply final torque spwcs after RTV cure is complete. No leaks.. no loose bolts.. no lost/loose gasket material inside the engine.

never knew about 'Gasgacinch', just the similar permatex sealer. That's what I always use. When it didn't cut it on a thermostat housing, I used Right Stuff.
