Howdy from Texas, and thanks in advance for all your advice and knowledge that i'll gain from these forums. My cousin gave me a '70 mav with the 200 inline 6 last weekend and it's in marvelous condition considering how long it's been sitting out in the field at his place. There's a dent in the front bumper, a small dent in the chrome around the windshield on the passenger side, and a dinged up place on the trunk, also on the passenger side. As far as rust goes, theres surface rust only, with the small exception of a rusted out hole in the gas tank, and a small rusted through place on the very front of the hood. I don't know if it runs yet, because the starter's not working, but i'm going to remedy that real soon. The engine is not locked up, but that's about all i know at this point. The speedo says 72k, but i guess that could be 172k. With the condition it's in, i doubt that though... I think i've decided to go ahead and strip everything down and work on the bodywork, as well as just clean everything. i might go ahead and replace the rings and small, cheap things on the engine, as money's tight right now. I'm a 6th year college student at Texas A&M, so until i get a real job, the upgrades will be few and far between. I figure I can do all the sanding and body work for free and really cheap, so i'm starting there. I do want to drop a 302 in it, and beef it up a bit, but it's not going to be raced, so it doesn't have to be a boss or anything. If anyone knows where I can get a cheap (or free) 302 along with a matching manual tranny, let me know! I'm fairly new to building an engine as far as what cam performs better and things like that, but can take things apart and put them back together with the best of them. I'll definitely need some advice when it gets to that point. I think this will be a fun project, and it's already served to relieve some stress inbetween classes and homework. Until my next post, Wes
pics? Not yet... I'm working on pics. My girlfriend is the camera nut and has a really nice Nikon SLR digital, which i'm going to have to borrow if i want to upload any pics. I'll get there and see if i can't get you guys something to look at...
to the board. Lots of great people here. Looking forward to the pictures (we love pictures). And good luck on your project. Just remember, there's more to it then just dropping in a 302. You need the motor mounts, cross brace. You'll have to look on Ebay or find a parts car for those pieces of the puzzle.......
Yeah, i've read enough already to know about the motor mounts and stuff... and i've read enough to know that i don't think i want to attempt the 351 conversion. It would be fun, but I'm pretty sure I can get all the fun I want to have on the street with a fairly nice 302. Btw, I picked up my girlfriends camera today, so i'll try and take some pics soon. Should I post them here, or start a new thread somewhere else?
