Deanne, Just to make things clear, a Maverick could be outfitted with a trunk release lever. It would have been a dealer installed accessory. It probably was not installed in a glove compartment. More than likely it would have been installed somewhere in the passenger compartment in reach of the driver. Perhaps on the floor near the bottom of the left side of the driver's seat next to the rocker panel ridge.
Also, an electric opener was available as an add on ford accessory and could have been installed at the time the vehicle was ordered. The location of the push button to activate it could have been left up to the owner and thus could have been mounted anywhere.
I have never seen a dealer installed, or factory installed electric trunk opener in a Maverick or Comet in the 27 years that I have been dealing with these cars. Even if it was in the accessory catalogue, it may not have worked in these cars.
One came in my 72 Comet GT... or was there when I purchased the car. Trunk lock mechanism looks like a factory part but has an electric operated plunger.
I did not Larry. But as I posted in post 10, these were available for ALL MODELS beginning in 1970. I suppose the original 70 yr old owner I purchased the car from could have added it a few yrs later?? It sure works great and no modification was made in the truck, bolts holes are spaced identical to the latch mechanism with the electric plunger.
In the attached photo from the Master Ford Parts Manual, it shows the electric Trunk lock being available for the 70 up Maverick ( " P" )
Interesting... Are there any numbers stamped either in ink or in metal like 7133, 72 02, 72-22 etc(either with or without the space or dash)?? What those are is the code date of mfgr, 7133 would be 1971 week 33, same as 72 02 would be 1972, second week...
Tom, there is not... the only numbers present on it can be see in the photo of the lock that I posted. Zoom in on the lock to see what is present.
Sherlock Kelley, you continue to befuddle the disbelievers. Just because a person has never observed something does not conclude it did not exist!!!
Obviously it was an accessory that could be installed, but they never came that way from the factory (unless special ordered). I'd like to have one myself. I get tired of having to use the key every time I want to open the trunk (like if the car is running). I wonder if there are any aftermarket units that will bolt in without modification.
