My rustic Comet GT has a set of traditional 14" - Cragars. Front are 7" wide but rear rims are 10" wide and had 265/14 BFG TA's which evidently are discontinued. I can't find any tires for the rims and wondered if the 245-14 TA's can work on the 10" rims. OR link to similar wide radial tire for 10" X 14 " rims appreciated... thanks .
thanks those would work at the drags, but they are Bias Ply and max recommended wheel width is 8" , most suitable for 1/4 mile rides ... have fun
Maybe I'm measuring wrong,?, any Cragar PRO's know of part ID locations, I'll measure again and take a pic if I can. thanks for responses
235-80-14 is equal to a L60-14 which is what people ran on a 10 inch cragar a lot of people ran 15 inch rims on the back 14 inch cragars on the front that way they spun at different speeds when cruising stop light to stop light
when you break them down use a machine that breaks them down from the side or turn them upside down on the machine they break really easy
Not sure how wide my rear rims are. My rear wheels are 5.5" from the front rim edge to the front of the centers, 4.5" from rear rim edge to the front of the centers. I would prefer wheels/rims that fit inside the fenders. P255/60/15 mounted on them. These do not, but have 1.5" of clearance from the leaf springs on the inside. How exactly is the width estimated without removing the tire? Bead to bead or edge to edge? If I recall, my 72 I had in the 80s I put 14x7 Cragars with F60s on front and G60s on rear. Rears rubbed the fender edges a bit as I recall, fronts rubbed inside wells a touch, but don't remember if it was front or rear. I haven't removed my wheels, they have locking lugs on them and since the previous owner is deceased, the key was not available.
I highly doubt you'll find any affordable 14" tires wide enough that will fit a 10" wide rim. The wheel/tire size pecking order is based on demand and 14" stuff is considered entry level so you won't find very many 265- 275mm wide tires to safely fill that rim out. I would also consider the tire diameter when choosing a tire. Getting the width right and aspect ratio/height too short will make them look a bit off in overall proportions from the side view. I'd guess those 255mm tires will be about a half inch shorter than your old 265'school were. Go directly to their site for all spec's.
I ran 275x60x15s on 8" rims. no rubbing and had spring clearance. another person ran them on 10" rims and had to roll the fender lip... my 8" rims had the tire standing taller, his 10" bulged the sidewall.
