That sucks. It does look like it's totaled. Roll cages do work...

looks like his drivers rear tire may have gone flat.....looks like he dips to the left right before the roll.. not sure tho....since the back half of the mav is cut off by the film....

if im not mistaken,......the trap looked like a 10.5 for the maverick....so the stang had to be high 9's?

It may have popped a freeze plug, doesn't really look like a lot of smoke, like an oil down. You can see a lot of something under the car before he loses it. He was just there for the ride, nothing he could have done to save it.

last time i went to SIR, a guy in a 80's camaro blew up the engine during staging.....all i could see was the entire contents of oil spraying on the track 10 feet in front of me...i was waiting in the wet box.... they had to close the right side and tried to run everyone down the left lane for the last 40 minutes....

but they guy stopped about the 150 foot mark and got out

I know all about track clean-ups.. I work part-time at Texas Raceway, in Kennedale. It really helps the sooner a problem is noticed, you pull over. We often have people try to make it back to the pits when they explode. Then there is a very long clean-up time!

Maverick Drag accident video link - freeze plug failure?

This topic came up on the 385 engine forum. There has been a lot of discussion on that board lately about the need for drag racers to use screw in freeze plugs. Someone posted that they thought they saw spray come from under the car just before the Mav started going sideways. Honestly - I can't see anything - but there has been a couple of guys on that forum that have popped freeze plugs on the track. I think my next motor will get them.

Yes, I did see some spray from behind the car. Freeze plug maybe? I've seen them come out before, though thankfully I haven't seen that kind of result. Then again, it may have been fuel, oil, or trans fluid..though the latter 2 usually show signs of smoke from burning off the headers.

Bad wreck. Not near as bad as I've seen in person, but very bad wreck.
To bad for the car, but looks like the guy was well protected
