Thinking of adding the deluxe style dome light. Like those on early 90's f150's. I haven't installed my headliner so now I think Woyld be the best time to add it. For those of you that have installed it how'd you wire it? Power all the time or only with the accessory lights on? Thanks.

    7D2,
I converted mine over to the LDO style which I believe is the one you are referring to. It has the center light with the two map lights on the sides.

The easiest way would be to get the LDO light harness from another Maverick. The connections for the light to the harness are in a different spot. I had to use a deremel tool with a cut off wheel to cut out a little square for the harness connection to attach on the roof.

This is the LDO light package with the footwell and trunk lights. The hood light is not pictured. The overhead harness is in the upper right.

Pretty similar to the light, just a different bulb and this one comes with a gasket and the chrome looks great on it. It's an eBay deal, I think it was $15 or 20 for the dome light. The wiring is pretty much what I need but might be hard to find. I can make my own if need be. Thanks

Might be worth seeing if someone out there is scrapping an 2dr or 4dr LDO. Now would be the time to install the whole package. The trunk light is nice to have and the footwell lights sure do a good job. Put one of the flat panel LEDs in the overhead and it will be like daylight inside.

I'll place a want add. There's a couple of nos trunk light setups (non ldo) on eBay I was looking at. 70's harnesses I was thinking of picking up and adapting to the factory harness.

A little lost on your adapting of a '70s harness. What are your plans?

I think all the LDO stuff I got was from a '75 4dr that I junked years ago. The lighting harness plugged directly into my stock '71 harness.

I was planning on buying a trunk light harness from a 70's ford and having it tie into my comet harness

If your Comet is the same as the Maverick, there should be no need for modification. Near the LH door jam switch, should be a light green wire. Your trunk light plugs right in.

For my 1970 Maverick: Before installing headliner, I made out of aluminum an "adapter" that has the new dome-light base pattern, and screws into the old dome-light holes - using counter-sunk flat-head screws. Inside the new dome-light, I carefully drilled & counter-sunk holes through four conveniently placed casting "bosses".
On the hole pattern on my "adapter plate" top, I JB-Welded nuts (machine screw nuts, with very wide surface area & pins - designed for installing in wood/plastic). I drilled tiny holes for the nut's "pins" to poke through (capturing the nuts, so they won't spin).
For wiring the map-lights, I ran a single wire down to the fuse-box (underneath the dash), and used a single fuse tapped to accessories.

Square cut out points needed to use original LDO light harness. Only modification needed.

It's going to hurt drilling into my carbon fiber trunk lid for the light mount. Thanks for the info Micah. It's much appreciated.

    7D2,
The above photo was for the interior light.

I'm curious what the back side of a carbon fiber trunk looks like. I did not know you were installing one. I would not want to drill into one either. The original light just tucks into a rectangular opening in the rear left corner of the trunk lid. I take it the carbon fiber one does not have this.

Why not put an LED strip light under the package tray. You could either do a manual switch or maybe hide a mercury switch on the hinges. You would get more light and in a better place than the measly one in the lid.

Yea I figured it was for the dome light. The underside of the carbon fiber trunk looks just like the factory trunk lid. The underside light tucked in the trunk was the other option with the Mercury switch on the hinge to activate the light.

why dont you hook up some lights on the side of the trunk inside maybe make some enclosure panels to close off the trunk square/rectangular and install some round lights inside the side walls should be a pretty simple job to enclose the trunk with some wood and carpet then you dont have to drill your trunk lid and you can wire the lights to a sensor like the factory light. then youll have light that actually functions better because theyre inside where its dark

    just a thought
