Just received my rebuild kit and rear yoke for my 9" diff from Quick Performance.
First I noticed that the yoke did not ship with the metal dust cover as shown in the picture. The phone operator said they take them off because they will rattle, I've heard of some rattling from other Ford guys but not all. They said the saleman would call me back latter to discuss it BUT what do you guys think ?.
Also I do not have the existing diff apart but when I measure the yoke from the dust cover up it measures 4.5" and the new yoke measures 4" from the metal dust cover. Do you guys think 1/2" shorter would make much difference in the front slip yoke ?
yoke.jpg My car is a 72 Comet with toploader, 9" rearend and stock drive shaft.

When I had my 9 inch rebuilt a couple of years ago, I was told there where only 2 OEM yokes available, shorter version you have and a longer one, something about one for passenger cars and other for pick up trucks. Mine is OEM with dust cover, same one I have used for 30 + years, never any issues.........do not know about aftermarket, non Ford yokes.

here is fellow I had rebuilt from, been in business for over 30 years, Ian would beable to answer your question.....
www.iwerearendsonly.com or you can contact Quick Performance too.

Thanks dyent, some good info on that site. The operator also said there are only one lenght of the LONG yoke although I have found there are two widths with the wider one measuring 3 5/8". The wider yoke maybe the only yoke that is manufactured now other than custom billet. I hope when I get them apart the over all lenght is the same because now the measurements from the dust cover are different (both LONG yokes). Quick has been good to deal with and they will call me back Monday because they are doing a car show this weekend.

Yep had to get a u-joint conversion, big cap to small cap on the drive shaft.
