Went to the junkyard today and found a 79 Granada in pretty good condition (interior) and I was wondering if the bench seat would fit in my 75 Mav. It already has a bench seat in it, but I have some idea's for some "changes" and i wanna test them before I do them to my original seats. So will it fit?
It should fit, but I don't know for 100% certain. I guarantee the seat tracks will not fit a '74 or older Maverick (at least not on the passenger side).
I would say there is a fairly good chance that it is a bolt in. I am going to disagree about the passenger side being a problem. I have had two sets of LDO tracks, two sets of Granada bucket tracks, and a set of later Mav bucket tracks. With bucket seat tracks on all of these, the outer track is identical to LDO tracks. The only change that I observed is the bucket track next to the trans tunnel on the passenger side. They even made that seat lop-sided because that track was placed higher than the outer one. With the outer LDO bucket tracks being the same, the bench tracks should be fine. The Granada floorpans are based off the Mav design. To be very sure before you take the dive here, measure the width between the seat tracks on both buckets, and make sure that the front to rear spacing is same on both sides of the Granada seat too. The main reason for adding that is that one of the Granada seat tracks sets I had included a power driver seat. I suspect that was outsourced by Ford, because the bolt pattern to the seat was way off (from even the regular Ford pattern on the pass side seat! ... two different patterns in the same car!) and I seem to recall it being OK in the way that it bolted to the floor, but let's be sure. Interested in your results if you go forward with this, or find that it won't work for some reason. I'll add it to this tech article.... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=80862
I'm heading there tommorow and I will measure to make sure everything is in fact, compatible. And while I am there, I will check out the rear bumper and let you know tommorow when I reply.
I got my eye on a junkyard bench seat in a 77 cougar. It is just under 52 inches wide. How wide is the bench in a 74 comet? The seat is very nice.
It is 52 inches wide. How wide is a maverick bench? The seat placement in the Cougar puts the driver slightly left of the steering wheel, and there is a huge gap between the seat and door where the floor pan comes up over the frame underneath. If it is too wide, it wouldnt be by much.
That is kind of you Matt. I am a bit too distant, but if you have a tape measure handy and could measure that seat at the widest points....bottom back, or whatever looks widest, I would love to hear a number. Whenever it is convenient, Stuart
I'll get it measured this weekend. Maverick656 if you want the seat let me know. I'm not far from Washington, PA.
