can you get a horn button with the maverick symbol on it or do you have to custom make one. ? Also what year Mavericks had that kind of wheel
No Maverick came with that steering wheel. And you would have to customize the horn button for a Maverick logo.
According to the Ford Parts Manual, the sport steering wheel was available for 1977 model yr Mavericks. While it was not standard, a 77 could have been ordered with the sport steering wheel.
Lots of things that were available that I've never seen installed, however since millions of Maverick/Comets were made, I would feel safe to say at least one car would have been requested with the various options available through the years.
I pulled this one out of a 79 F-150. I removed the three nuts off the back of the button and used a tiny screw driver to work the rubber lip off the button edge. I carefully pryed the clear plastic off the black part and removed the dorky-looking Ford oval. I have a bunch of spare ratty center caps (for Factory Aluminum Slots) so I knocked a checked one out for a test fit. It is just a bit smaller than the horn button piece, and a hair too proud, but I was going to epoxy it all together. This is just a dry fit test. I think this suits the look of my car more so than the oval or the shield, stallion, etc. I was also looking at using one of these in the 1-3/4" size, as they are probably thinner and would fit inside the clear lens part of the horn better. http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-MAVERI...866afa5&pid=100005&rk=1&rkt=4&sd=141916237501 The same seller also sells them without the "MAVERICK" lettering...
That looks like crap, you should just give it to me and save yourself the embarrassment. I on the other hand don't mind being embarrassed and can put it to good use.
1977 was the only year Maverick the Sport Steering wheel could have been ordered for, but it will fit any year locking column you wish to put it on.
The center is plastic. I cleaned the spokes with a Dremel attachment that looks like a brown scrub pad.
