Yes, I think so. It will shift gears, just doesn't seem to be in the right area

Just bypass the heater core and fix it later.

Just loop the heater hose that comes out of the water pump to the spot where the heater hose hooks up on intake manifold. Just buy a short piece of hose to do it with

Or unhook the heater hoses from the heater core and join them together with a short piece of pipe.

I has an 86 Taurus many years back that developed a heater core leak (most early Taurus's did at some point) that was really bad. It would spray coolant on the windshield and smell to the high heaven. Since very few things are easy fixes on a Taurus, I decided to try one of the coolant sealers that worked for me in the 70's. The stuff is called K&W block seal and is primarily intended for leaky head gaskets, freeze plugs and cracked blocks.

I followed the instructions to the letter and to my amazement, it sealed the leak! I ran the car for another 50k miles and the core never leaked again. Nice thing about this stuff is that it cannot plug up your cooling system like some products can. Granted, the best fix to just replace the leaking core, but on that Taurus, one had to disassemble most of the dash to access it.

I replaced the core on my 94 Taurus, took a full weekend. The car was totaled about a month later.

Glad to hear it is back together.

I have to replace the A/C compressor on a 2000 Taurus Duratech that one of my step sons was driving. What a sunuvabeech that job is going to be. I enjoyed that car for 200K miles, but what a horrible car to work on:nailbiting:! I seem to be "Mr Fix It" for the entire family:grumpy:
