I drove my car for 30 years with manual steering. When I put the 347 in, I went with a power steering set up from a junk yard Maverick. I rebuilt the hydraulics myself and had someone do the box. Absolutely love it. I have no leaks. Road feel is decent. I'm running a later style pump that probably has a bit less pressure. I have no issues with the stock steering components. If you go with it, get a good rebuild kit that includes replacement aluminum hose seats.

I rebuilt my stock cylinder and control valve when I freshened up my car, along with all new suspension and steering components. It's not hard to do. I have no leaks and the steering has no issues. It gets me to the car shows and ice cream places with minimal effort... I bought the rebuilt kits from Rock Auto for less than $30 USD.

This guy has some really good step-by-step videos if you wanted to know exactly what you'd be getting into:

True, I don't remember the last time I had to parallel park. At least 20 years ago.

As far as the pump, I would use the newer pump and get a new pressure hose made to go from the new pump to the steering ram. Your old return line should work fine. Just use the entire serpentine setup. -Matt
