I have recently purchased a new 1973 Maverick with 50,000 miles and a 250 six cylinder. It has given me problems running and I have been through everything in the book in another thread and it's down to the stock Carter RBS Carb. I have had it rebuilt 3 times and I am down to purchasing a new rebuilt one. Before I do that, does anyone have a recommendation on a substitute carb for the 250 engine (and intake or adaptors)? I really would like to buy an new setup vs fighting this old design.

Giving up, a new rebuilt Carter RBS is on order. I saw a few others that might work for less $, but all had issues I did not want to deal with. Specifically the Carter YF, Holley 1904 and 1946 and the Autolite 1101. I don't need any new problems.

i had the carter yf on my mav when i had the original 200 in it. i never messed with it as i was young and didnt really know how to. I just slapped it on and set the idle and choke. ran fine for me but also i never had any real power with that thing.

I have a couple of Autolite 2100's lying around - but they'd need to be rebuilt and not sure what it would take to work on a 250...

sounds like you're looking for something more simple

Thanks, but I'm done. A different rebuilt Carter RBS off e-bay fixed the issue. Runs great, just in time for the last few months of good weather up here!

Did you have to modify anything to get the RBS to fit/work?

Not that I remember. It has been awhile since I dealt with this issue. As I recall, there are several models with different setups, but I just bought one that looked the same.
