Would you fancy Rocker Moldings?

My 1971 2 door has / had the circular depressions for the push-thru style clip. My '76 2 door had the "nail head" studs to mount the clips. Both have / had threaded studs at each end of the trim to go through drilled holes in the ft fender / qtr respectively and the wide white / yellow clips themselves looked similar. I assume the holes / depression models caused a lot of corrosion issues hence the switch to the nail style. Let me see if I can find a shot of the rocker in primer to show - I lost a lot of old photos from early on

 

Aside from the metal clips that go on the ends, the Ford Parts Manual shows these 2 styles of nylon clips...
A substitute for the metal clips was identified and is in Melvins Classic Ford Parts catalog, it requires a very small amount of trimming.

 

Looks like it's way too nice to part out.

 

Not sure IF that's a Comet due to not being able to see the hood or grille area ... assuming it's the '71 Comet from your cars list but that sure is a Sexy Machine

I stand corrected, just loosened the trim and also found an old photo. I thought they had the depressions since mine had the holes bondo'd over, goes to show, memory not always entirely trustworthy....mine just had the holes punched in, no "depression" there...

Not a Comet lover due to the front ends but I will say .... IF they're Nice & minty then Do It !!! I can't afford the deal on the Maverick emblems right now but I surely would re badge mine ...even the stick on trunk emblems on the '72 if they're not pitting or trashed up. Advertise these little street machines and show the non car guys how cool they are as restored cruisers, auto x / touring or hopped up street fighters. People might have their opinions but there's becoming a major re take being done on the potential of these cars by people who never thought twice about'em ....

 

Just to clarify on this point because I realized my last post might not have been clear enough, but my '71 2 door did / does have holes punched in the rocker from the factory for the push through style clips (so it wasn't just a 4 door thing in regards to the clip type) mine just didn't have the depressions around the clip I had thought they did. The '76 was the nail head style. So they did change at some point but not sure when. The factory holes are too large for a traditional pop rivet to work so the only solution if you want to use the clips when you have the holes already (and you don't have the push through 'pins') is to either weld up the holes and drill a smaller one, drill near the existing hole and drill through the clip and rivet (not ideal), or find the early style pins...

 

I kinda like the rocker moldings on my Comet, just wish they were in a little better shape..... I would like to find a really clean or NOS set.....

 

if the attached works it should show the factory holes in the '71 2 door rockers; look close and you can see they are square as discussed...

 

I think they compliment the lines of the car nicely and work well with the look of the wheel well trim and drip rails. They definitely seem pretty much exclusive to Comets though...

 

I agree as were the side upper fender to trunk trim, the tail panel trims, and from what I have seen around here the vinyl roof trim variations

I bet that would all be pricey to have all of it tied together in a really nice driver or nos parts but they claimed Comets were more luxurious and fancy back in the hay days originally

 

I will have the flat one like those I have pictured above, reproduced. Not sure how long it will take before they will be available.

 

Looks are deceiving. I bought the car from the previous owner because the back bumper had fallen off due to rust.
