This is useful news, at least to me. A few weeks back, Crites told me that they were tweaking their 1-3/4 351w headers to work in Maverick without modifying the shock towers. I ordered a set and expect them this week. If anyone is interested in how they fit, i will let you know.
I would like to know the outcome of the Crites header install. Perhaps they would also fit on a 302 based engine.
Yeah defiantly would like to know the outcome of the new headers. Both my 73 comet and my brothers 75 grabber have 351w in them. He is still running factory shock towers and exhaust manifolds.
Are you guys running the factory 302 Maverick manifolds with the 351W. Just wondering if that setup would work with the factory z-bar and clutch linkage. - Matt
i have a 351 i was gonna swap in (still got a 250 in mine) and the only problem i was having was headers, so id love to know how well the headers work. i might just go 302 though
I am right now just to be able to drive the car. The driver's side manifold hits the gearbox. I was able to grind it down a bit to make it work.
Not to hijack the thread but if anyone is looking for a bigger tube header, Accufab makes a 2in full length designed to fit with the factory shock towers. I don't know how they fit but George is very helpful to talk with on the phone. https://accufabracing.com/mustang-headers-pricing-guide
Got the headers today. They look good. Crites did a great job. Only one issue. They weren't able to get them to fit with stock shock towers. They did include a fiberglass template and metal plates needed to modify the towers for the headers to fit.
