I have a 1974 Maverick factory a/c with a new style compressor. Sometimes it will get a full 12 volts to the compressor and then it only sends less voltage and the clutch won't kick on. What could be causing this?

Your AC thermostatic switch may be going bad or, as Frank said, the connection may be bad. Could also be a broken wire. See what voltage you get at the switch.

Anything loose/corroded in circuit from fuse panel to the compressor can cause voltage drop... As already stated if switch contacts are burned or connection loose that could do it...

I have/had a similiar problem. I wired around my thermo. sw temporarily so my comp. runs constantly. Bypass the sw and see what happens! If that don't work, problem somewhere else.
