Without driveshaft locked most will turn axles same direction even though they are single traction... AFAIK posi wasn't available that far back... A 3.10 gerar would have likely came behind a 292 & automatic, at least that was usual ratio for '57... Wagons with same engine & trans got 3.56...
not sur ehwat engine it had but it was a automatic car! krazy comet when i hold one axle and try to turn th eyoke it wont turn, now yrs ago my cousin had a 58 pickup that came with 3.70 gears and posi unit or at least when he put a 390 bigblock in it and did burn outs it would leave to marks, now after a few hard launches and brn outs it stopped leaving 2 black marks it was the orginal war case
my 8 inch in the maverick has 2.79 gears does anyone think i will notice a little btter acceleration with the 3.10 vs the 2.79
Probably not, just using taller/shorter tires can change the actual final ratio as much if not more... With 255 on back of mine I had to switch speedo gear from orig 3.00 to a 2.79 gear to get a correct reading...
i have found a center section out of a truck with 3.50 gears ,the truck section is from a 73 f-100.i have 28 inch rear tires and a 2500 stall so i think the 3.50 gears would be better suited for my driving in town mostly
actually when i went to pick the centersection up it wound up being a 2.75 gear but luckily Carl had another 9 inch sitting around that actuallly did have the 3.50 gear,he had a 3.70 chunk i almost went with but decided the 3.50 would be the best comprimise, cant wait to install the 9 inch with the 3.50 gears gotta be more fun than the 2.79 gears
