If i am going to be pulling my rear end and leafs, where should I lift the rear at to support it? usually I lift on axle but obviously that won't work. I am doing this on the ground. I have four 12" 3ton Jack's . looking for the safest place. I'm guessing rails right before the front leaf eyeball mount ?
Just have them placed so they are not in the way when leaf spring pivots. Here is what I did when removing, I also kept the rear wheels on.......... 1). chock front wheels 2). place jack stands on frame rail, should see extra reinforcement plate, I used piece of 2x4 between stand/frame rail 3). use floor jack under rear end center section to raise/lower 4). undo/remove brake lines, cables from rear end 5). undo u-bolts from rear end housing and u-bolts holding the rear u-joints 6). undo rear shackles and lower rear leaf springs 7). rear end can be rolled out, since you still have wheels in place 8). undo front eye bolt and remove leaf springs Are you going to still use same rear end? If so, you can leave lines/cables attached and just support the rear end, while dropping/removing the leaf springs only........ If you are going to change or rebuild the rear end and still going to use the same rear brakes, you can remove the axles and undo the 4 retainer bolts and backing plate/brake lines can still be left intact...... Thank you for the detailed removal. helpful, tho I think I can skip a few steps since I'm not complete removing it. I'm in stalling caltracs and new bushings in leafs
