While trying to clean up/reorganize all my Comet/Mav parts in the basement, I came across a factory Rear Window Defroster/Defogger unit. I can't remember if it was from my 71 Comet GT which I parted out almost 30 years ago. The switch is an under dash mounted knob with bezel stamped "Defog", is similar to light, wiper knobs, but on my 73 and 74, switch was in dash along with all the other controls. I looked at both my 73 and 74 fan units and they are the same, so just wondering about the switch. Wiring/plugs/connectors all match up to the under dash switch, again been so long can't remember!

Here are 2 on eBay that are the exact same, so I think it is from my 71 Comet GT, as I never had any other vechicle(s) that this could have came from......

this kit has the same under dash mounted switch, 2 speed twist knob, nice price............

    Thanks!

Having a switch under the dash sounds more like a dealer installed unit. The factory installed should have the in-dash switch.

    Hi Jeff:
Thanks for the pic, probably could have been a dealer installed, like I mentioned, it was over 30 years ago when I removed the rear defogger! On both my 73 and 74 Comets, their switch was just as in your picture. Did you change the light/wiper knobs/switches on your Mav, mine where plastic 6 sided with name stamped on knobs.

    David-
I have 65 chrome metal Mustang knobs. The wiper knob uses a set screw...the headlight knob comes with the stem made on the knob

I was actually just looking for one of these rear defoggers to convert to a front defogger! So timing was great in my case. Hahaaaa Thank you.
