Hi, I'm new to this forum and this is my first car restoration. I'm most likely getting a 70 Maverick later this week and I'm wondering what is recommended to star with first. It runs well and the original paint is in fair condition (will want to change later but not a priority). I plan to drop a 302 into it unless something else is recommended. I'm fairly handy but no expert. I've done tune ups to my daily driver before (wire set, spark plugs, fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor, cabin filter, etc.) but never anything close to this. I plan to start small so as to not overwhelm myself. I've got a fair amount of tools but I'm sure I'll need many more. If you could name one tool that might save me a world of trouble and maybe a suggestion of what to star with (interior, exterior, mechanics, something more specific) I would be very thankful!

:Welcome: Welcome from Northeastern Illinois. Tools I might suggest, floor jack and jack stands - If you don't already have some.

First post pictures of the car and the condition. Make sure to check the cowl before buying the car... but as to what you do first that is really up to you. Usually safety comes first so upgrade the front brakes to disc and then go over the suspension/steering. Then work on the motor for reliability then after that it's up to you.

After you check it for rust,LOL, type in "302 swap" into the search box at the top of the page. It will bring up a wealth of info on V8 swaps.
