Wow, except for the 6-cylinder, they did an awesome job on that car. I'm really impressed. They do so many builds I don't like, so this was really unexpected. I was expecting them to bastardize it, but they didn't. Awesome shade of green. Coil-over tubular front suspension. Nice black interior. Probably the first Comet hood with Grabber hoodscoops. It's cool they put a posi in it. I wonder what gear ratio it has. Small bumper conversion was an excellent choice. Love the wheel & tire combo. I like that they removed the headrests from the seats (never liked those). A Grabber spoiler would have been cool, but in any case, that car is absolutely beautiful.
Yes, especially the scoops. Should be body color. I would have done a different steering wheel as well.
I think they really stumbled on the rear bumper, using the longer late endcaps and then making it work. Looks like they trimmed the bumper to snug to that endcap, as in redoing the notch around the cap, as well as possible narrowing. I am guessing they didn't know earlier caps are shorter. I'll bet there was head-scratching and cussing involved. I would have liked to see a Grabber spoiler and Comet front bumper. Otherwise, I like what they did. I can live with the six cylinder, too, because it is supposed to be a tribute to his first car.
Installing a 6 banger into that build is a waste of TWO perfectly good cylinders ! These guys should have looked around a lot more when they started this build ! JMO Cometized (Chip)
After all the other mods they did to that car, the "tribute" is basically gone. The car Rawlings owned in high school had green interior and big bumpers. Also had different wheels and suspension, along wih a peg-leg rearend. I really don't see how retaining the anemic six is desireable here.
I thought this was why we own these cars...to build them the way we want to... do you have a different steering wheel in your car, if so...you did...LOL
Yeah. I'm just always thinking about how I would do it if I had a big budget like those guys. There are always little details that I'd do differently. But overall, the car turned out super nice.
Thinking about it a bit more .... (and probably reading far too much into it ...LOL) .... rather than "tribute" to the original car, how about how a broke high school kid might do the car today, given some serious skills and little cash? I'm probably trying far too hard to justify it ....
I heard yesterday that they sourced some of the Comet parts from... http://www.melvinsclassicfordparts.com/pdfs/maverick/Melvins_2017_Maverick_Catalog.pdf ......
