i was at my grandpaps one day and i was playing around in an old car he had sitting in his garage. i was clueless what it was at the time. upon a little internet search i discovered his old car was very powerful and very rare. it was an apollo white buick gsx with a stage one. all original since the day he bought it at the dealer his gsx was what initially sparked my interest in old muscle cars, i couldnt have his (yet) so i wanted my own little muscle car i started searching and after almost buying a 67 riviera, a 73 camaro, and a 74 charger, i stumbled upon something on craigslist i have never seen. it was a red and black 72 grabber. i told my dad about it and we went to maryland to look at it. upon seeing it i knew i had to have it i ended up getting surprised with it sitting in my garage one day after school. my dad picked it up without me knowing. after working on it all summer i had it ready to drive to school. i drove it to school and everyone hated it for some reason, but alot of other people have come up to me telling me their memories with maverick. i drove it around for a while and decided it was time to transform it into a real "muscle car". my grabber left the road in november. to start i converted my front brakes. i ripped my old 250 i6 .at first i had a 351w in the engine bay that i took out of my 4 door ( i wish i didnt tear my 4 door apart, it was bad***). i had the 351 in my grabbers engine bay. my manifold was touching to i shaved a little off with a grinder.....BIG MISTAKE!!! i accidentally grinded a hole in my manifold. i was pretty upset cause i didnt have another manifold. i guess it was a sign the 351 wasnt for my car. a few days after looking for a different engine, an old man that me and my dad knows said he had a 302. he gave me the 302 for free and i started the clean up on it. i got the 302 installed and upon starting it i figured out the bearings and rings in the 302 were shot. out came the 302 and i started a total rebuild. during the rebuild i started to realize the 302 was the better choice. i ordered headers, a nice dual plane intake, and other nice things for the 302. with the rebuild done i put the 302 back in and had it running real nice. since i had to wait for the weather to clear up ( i hate snow) i worked on my audio. since i never used my vents i figured out that inside the vents was a perfect spot for some tweeters. when the weather cleared up me and my dad decided it was ready for a test drive. we backed it out ( first time it moved since november) my 72 grabber looked so much nicer out in the daylight. me and my dad went for a test drive. the exhaust sounded mean and nasty, the whole ride was pretty smooth, brakes were good. he dad drove it first. later after a while my two best friends showed up and persuaded me to take them for a drive. it was the first time driving the car since november and it just felt so right. it was just like the begining of my senior year all over again, just me, my ride, and my best friends. as soon as i could i threw in my old black sabbath/ iron maiden mix cd. my friends and i were surprised at how my car has evolved from being a dusty old i6 to a real fire breathing monster. i feel my car didnt just involve, but i did too. this whole thing about working on it has been a great learning experience and i learned so much from it. im really proud of my work and how it turned out
