I'm new and i have a problem. i got a 72 fourdoor mav with a 302 and i have a serious rust problem in the rear frame rails where the springs mount, and the front shock towers where they mount to the frame. the shock towers are completely separated from the frame. i've tried to reweld them but the welds keep breaking. I REALLY DONT WANNA GET RID OF THIS CAR, PLEASE HELP ME!
If you really want to fix the rust problem, you'll need to have someone who's a good bodyman cut out the rotten frame rails and weld new ones in. You can't weld to rust so you will have to either find rust free ones on a junkyard car or get someone to make them. It's not all that easy a job to do and it's not a cheap thing to do either. It's really up to you if you want to try to fix it or maybe find another Maverick in better shape.
Find another fourdoor and put all your stuff over into it.Rust never sleeps-especially when it's gotten down into structural areas.
I thought about doing that, but have you ever seen any good rust free, or even salvagable body parts in northern illinios. i cannot get these parts, noone i have contacted them has them or can get them, and anyone on ebay either wont give me these parts, or they are too toasted to bother with.
The only cure for that problem is another Maverick. hang out here long enough....one will pop up. I just sold a 4-door on this board last summer....it went to Nebraska.
need help join the club. Rust free cars are not available in Ontario either. If you want a truely rust free car, complete or not, better think of going some distance to get 1. GA, TX, AZ, NM,CO,SC,NC. just a few to mention. Believe me it is worth the drive to get a desert car, or almost rust free car. You wont regret it . Good luck with your search.
