Okay here it goes. I was curious if there was any pedal assembly design changes. I have a 69.5 and was thinking about adding a clutch pedal and just curious if a 74 and up would work or if there is something different about the assembly.
AFAIK, the brake/clutch pedal assembly are all the same, however the bolt spacing on the firewall mounting on the pedal support brackets are different between earlier versions up to 73 and that of late 73 and up. When I had my 74 with auto and converted over to manual, I got pedal support bracket/brake/clutch pedal assembly from a 73 and had to modify 2 of the 4 mounting nuts on the support bracket to fit the 74, as I did not reuse the auto support bracket that was in the 74. I think you will be OK using the brake/clutch pedals from the 74 onto your 69.5, but make sure you get the bracket for the assist spring (which is bolted onto the support bracket by 2 bolts), the "blue" clutch pedal assist spring and "red" clip on end of shaft, which secures the pedals. Automatics used a bolt on the end of the shaft. David
74 automatic pedal support on the left...71 manual support on the right. Notice the lack of bushing on the 74 support. The 74 uses a bolt for the pedal to pivot while the 71 uses a thicker pin and clip. The hole for the pivot in the pedal is also different size. I didn't have an issue with different firewall bolt pattern when I swapped supports
Now I remember why I did not reuse my auto support bracket, forgot about those grey babbitt bearings..........so looks like you will have to change out your pedal support bracket, do you have the complete set up from the 74? (support bracket/brake and clutch pedals). Then you can just do a swap out. David
I don't know about clutch pedals or year models, but manual vs. power brakes makes a difference too: manual drum pedal from 1970 on left power disc pedal from 1974 on right
Jeff: In picture above, I ran into problems with the vertical bolt spacing between my 2 supports, difference was like 1/4", looks like same issue between your 71 manual and 74 auto (wider spacing)? David
Must be an optical illusion if you're talking about the bolt pattern on the firewall. All 4 bolts went back where I got them.
You guys are great. I was looking at the pedal kit on e bay i really want a t5 hooked up to my 250....
Trunk release is on the list aswell... Just got my 8in out of storage its from a 78 granada..... Im going to replace the 2.79s with 3.25s
T5's are awesome! They make a crappy motor OK! I had a T5 in my 92 S10 2.8 and loved it. I think my son would still have his 65 Falcon 170 if we could have hooked a T5 to it, but the high mount starter bell housing prevented it, so we stuck with C4. 144/170/ early 200 owners know what I mean. We couldn't find an overdrive solution for the 170 unless you pay big money for Gearvendors over/under drive, over $2700. It ran great with the .030 bore, DUI, big log head, and Weber 2 bbl but was still a bit slow off the line with a C4 and 2.79 rear gears. We think we were getting about 125-130 gross HP out of a motor that made 105 out of the factory. That would be good fun in a car as light as a Falcon/Comet/Maverick/Comet with the right gears in the back. I am that weirdo that wants to see how bad-ass I can build a Maverick with a turbo 200-T5 and AWD with 4 wheel indie suspension for public highway and road course racing. I got a V8 for my Maverick cause it was way cheaper to build the power I wanted, but I will always love Ford inlines!
As a side note, notice how the power brake pedal in the picture wraps around the other side of the steering column? Good luck getting a clutch pedal anywhere near that. I couldn't believe it the first time I saw that set-up
As far as I know they're the same unless the newer car has power brakes, then I believe it's different. I have an equalizer bar and a couple other parts for a manual Maverick if you are interested.
