I just picked up and installed delta force 40 Series Flowmasters. Very very happy with the sound. Now I have to bring it to have some new pipes bent over the axle. I would suggest these mufflers. Not as loud as I thought they were gonna be, and I think it will mellow out a little more once the tailpipes are on. Anyone got a pic of the underneith of their car so I can show the guy the "suggested" way to run the pipes around the tank? I have heard some people having problems with room on a 73 and up.
scroll on down the thread, it shows it dumping out after it goes over the spring on the drivers side. over the axle is the easy part, it's after that where it gets complicated
I would suggest making an easy break away type connection, somewhere behind the mufflers. That way if you ever have to pull the trans, you can drop the whole center portion of your exhaust system out of your way with just a few bolts. Use those bell & flair set up. One end of the pipe is belled and the other is flaired. They are squesed together with 2 bolts and no gaskets to worry about.
well, when I got the car is had no mufflers but it was dualed and tthe pipes where exiting in front of the back tire. It has 2 1/4" pipes. I was able to cut the side pipes out and I was left with the perfect length coming from the headers that put the mufflers right where they should be. I just need the pipes bent over the axle and out the back. Right now the pipes are welded to the headers.....I'm gonna have them put a flange like Dennis suggested. I can;t see them wanting more than like 200 to bend the pipes and mount them.....am I being realistic?
does anyone have pictures of a maverick with the exshaust tips ending before the rear tire?and if so could i see them because iam thinking of doing this.
$200 sounds right to run new pipes from the headers back ... probably need to supply your own collectors though ..
steve who is gonna do it? anyhow, when you get it done, find a way to tactfully suggest that it is well known that mavs are a pain (to most places) and that your mav buddies said to make sure he does the one around the tank FIRST so that when he does the easy one (passenger side) he has leeway to make it equal distant from the center of the car. if you look at todds' you'll see what i mean. he musta done the passenger side first cuz the driver side pipe isn't the same distance from the center of the car.
Went to a local midas shop today. They said they can do it, but they would like to move the fuel line since it will be so close to where the exhaust comes down behind the axle. Has anyone else had to do this? I am having the pipes come straight out the back. He said they will cut the line, put a fitting in it to connect it to another metal line.
