I've decided to finally start my build thread on my car. I'll give a quick background. I bought the car from a friend in 2002 for $350. Paid him $40 and changed the starter in his car to pay for the comet. It had a 200 in it. Not the factory motor. It was date coded 1969. Factory auto on the collum and a bench in the front. I started driving the car the summer of 2004. The trans started slipping so I bought a 74 4 door maverick with a 250 so in went the larger 6. I drove that around like that until it lost 3rd gear. Bad rebuild on the trans. I went at that point and bought the parts to convert the car to a standard trans. I had to build a z bar for it. I drove the car around like that for at least a year. I then picked up a 74 grabber that was junk. It gave me bucket seats, black interior parts, and v8 swap parts. I tried and failed at rebuilding the 302. I had installed it in my comet and it lost oil pressure and I wiped the crank. My buddy gave me a 1975 351w and we installed that in the car. I got some headers to fit and called it good. This was in 2006 and I drove the car around for about a year. I had a lot of fun banging gears. I always had people wanting to race me. I installed disc brakes spindles around this time. I got married in September of 2007 and the car took a back seat. I was always going to get it back on the road. We moved into a house with a garage. I ended up with my grandfather's Studebaker and the comet got parked next to it in 2009. Soon enough the car became a workbench. I bought another parts car. A 1970 and cut it up for the sheet metal. In 2012 I bought a 1977 4 door for a daily driver. It met it's untimely end in September of 2013. Again I pulled parts and sheet metal that will go to the comet. I started on a spiral of buying project cars. First it was a 64 falcon wagon. Worked on it for 2 1/2 years sold it and bought a 49 Plymouth. All this time I should have been focusing on the comet. Well last September the Plymouth went and I bought a running driving old car to get my fix. This way I have something to drive and can focus on the comet. I finally moved the comet over and am working on cleaning out the garage. I am going to start work on the car shortly. My 1970 Buick wildcat needs some maintenance done to it then the fun starts on my comet.

This is the plan as of right now of what I'm going to do to the car. It will get stripped down first off so as to fix all the rust issues. I will be painting it the yellow that it currently is. I also will be leaving the white painted halo top. I want to run a GT stripe in the hood and down the sides of the car in white with a black pinstripe around then so it doesn't get lost with the yellow. The tail panel of the car will also be white. I have small bumpers for the car. It will also get the sports mirrors and the GT scoop I bought back in 2014 for $20. The interior will be black. I have the buckets from the 74 grabber I junked. Engine work I have a cam kit for the motor, date coded 1970 351w heads, a vintage street dominator intake, and a 650 double pumper. The heads will get ported, new valve guides, new seats, and new valves. I will be having screw in rocker studs installed with guide plates. A set of roller rockers will top the heads off. The bottom end of the motor will be gone through if needed new bearings and rings. The motor only had around 60,000 miles on it. For a trans I have a t10 out of a 65 mustang. It is a closed ratio trans. I might go with a t5 for the overdrive gear. I already have a 9" rear installed from a 1980 Granada. It has 3.25 gear ratio and a mini spool. I think I'm going to buy a locker instead. I have some vintage torque thrust wheels that I'm going to paint the spokes the same white as the top of the car. I think it will look really good. It will also get headers and I have always wanted side pipes on the car. I want an early 70's custom car feel. I have a rear defroster for the car and an intermittent windshield wiper set up that came out of my 77 4 door. I might install an aftermarket AC system but haven't decided yet.

This is my first car and I have been dreaming of how I want the car to be for years. I'm glad I'm finally taking the steps to get it back on the road.

I've included a couple of pictures of the car in my garage. Where it was sitting and where it is sitting now.

    bartikus,

If I were you I would post my build in the Garage section of the site rather than a thread that will go to the archives within a few days. You have 100% control of the content utilizing the Garage and others can join in in the Discussion section of your posting.

Your build will always be visible in the Garage. Not so with a thread.

I can do that, I guess the forum has really changed in the last 15 years.

Isn't it amazing when life gets in the way all summer. I have finally been able to finish cleaning off my comet. I worked on too many friends and family cars the last 6 months. But I decided it is my time, I'll be calling in a lot of help this winter. Here are a couple of photos of how my garage is looking now. I still have a lot to clean but I'm getting excited. The motor sitting in front of my car will be gone this week. I got the rest of my brothers crap out of there this last weekend, and filled my garbage can up. It feels really good to declutter. One of the best parts was I found the decent set of boomerangs I pulled off of a 1970 I parted out years ago. I wasn't sure where they had ended up. Be watching for more posts as I start pulling the car apart. IMG_20171008_213232154_LL.jpg IMG_20171008_135439917_HDR.jpg

Yeah one of the reasons we bought the house was because of the size of the garage. I think it is finally time to get work done on my car. I've owned the car for 15 years now and been on the forum for the same amount of time.
