I'm thinking of swapping out the 250 that is currently in my Maverick and replacing it with a 302. Does anyone have a round about estimate of how much this might cost I've heard it said that I may have to do some modifications in order for the 302 to fit. What will I have to do?

Change your frame mounts & motor mounts only. trans crossmember & driveshaft can still be used, but would suggest upgrading to a thicker shaft for increase in horsepower.

Add the engine crossmember that goes under the oil pan for stability.

just take your time.....YOU WILL....i repeat WILL meet some resistance and problems will arise....just take them in stride....i did the 302 swap in my car....i had the engine completely built in the shed and then took the heads off when i put the engine in.....it actually helped a little having the heads off...

and i dont know if anyone had a problem with headers fitting...but to be on the safe side....i out the headers in the hole first and then dropped the block down....that way as to not scratch the engine and the headers too badly....

but i had it all done in 4-5 days.... working 8 m to 8 pm every day... with a lot of frustration breaks... and i did not clean up the engine bay at all... should have taken the time...but oh well...

    good luck

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
    if i were u i would try to get a 302 before 74 they have about 290 horses after 74 they dropp to about 134 but i'm not 100% sure about that . Mine was converted from a 75 302 to a 67 289 w/about 100 horses more than the 302. But any 302 is better than a L6.

i think your best bet would be to find an old 302 maverick that is only good for a parts car. that way you get all the stuff you need.
