I an going to redo my whole fuel system in my 72 Grabber.. I need to pull the gas tank and have it cleaned. It sat to long.. I am going to replace the fuel lines (rubber), blow out metal lines, new fuel pump, filters and Carburetor. This little V8 has a nice little cam in it (Don't know what size) but kinda has a nice rock side by side at idle. I don't race it. But Can someone recommend a decent 4bbl carburetor? I was thinking something maybe stock? (Autolite 4100??) I don't know much about stuff like this.. Just something good and reliable.

    Thanks!

Your opening up a can of worms with this question as everybody has their favorite carb to run. To me it has always been a Holley vacuum secondary with electric choke 600 or 650 cfm for a mild street car, to me they have the best performance but are a little harder on gas mileage than an Edelbrock by a couple mpg. Easy to tune and wide variety of goodies to adjust them to your cars need.

I dont know the availability of the 4100 so I would guess any that you would find would be a rebuild

The old 4100 were decent carbs and actually easier to repair than a Holley... Problem now is most are worn out and or have various parts missing, incorrect, broken etc, plus the ones from '64 have unique jets that are larger than Holley...

If you find one, note there are two CFM ratings, the small blocks used a 470cfm while big blocks a 595...

does it have a 4 bbl now, if not you will need an intake to match.

The carburetor I always recommend for your typical application is the Summit Racing M2008 600 cfm patterned after the Holley 4010. You cannot beat the price for this great little carburetor! I ran one for a number of years on my 351W and 302 before I changed to a Speed Demon 750. I was looking for more performance.

I second Hotrock's recommendation. I have one of these on the 72 Comet 302. Great throttle response. If you get one, order the Ford kick down attachment if you have an automatic.

Whoopsy! I have NO idea why I was thinking it was a 4bbl.. It is actually a 2bbl.. Sorry Guys! Maybe because all my old Mustangs always had 4bbl's.

So.... Can you recommend a good quality priced nice 2bbl?

I had a D0AZ-9510-D (Even asked about this back in 2007 on here) and replaced it with a UREMCO PN # 7-7314. Both never really worked so great.. Had the D0AZ rebuilt, but still never ran to good. But I would like a fairly priced decent 2bbl.

    Thanks!

The Holley 390 CFM and 500 CFM are good two barrel carbs. The 390 is better on gas and the 500 offers better performance.

My friend has the 500 CFM on the stock 302 in his '72 Maverick Grabber and he likes it.

You may be suffering other ills rather than a carb issue... Is your car stick shift or automatic?? If auto any idea what stall speed torque converter is in it??

With a lopey cam, stock converter and factory end ratio are performance killers on the bottom end... Also the base timing should be advanced from stock, plus advance curve reworked to give max advance before 3000 RPMs...

It's an automatic. I have no idea what has been done to the engine on this thing. All I know is the guy used to build engines put it in the car, drive for a while while he built another, pulled that engine, put another engine in, while he built another (repeat over).. When I got the car he next engine was in the trunk.. But I do know there is rust in the tank.
