So I am in the middle of getting my steering figured out and I noticed that there was major play in my steering so upon inspection I noticed that there seemed to be either like a hole or something has worn away on the power steering control valve. My question is do you think this could be fixed with a rebuild kit or do I need a whole new valve?
With system not operating there is some slop in the ball stud, that's mostly gone when pump pressurizes system.. IF you're operating without the pump, the nut under cap on end of valve should be tightened till it's slightly snug, this helps prevent ball stud from jumping out of the valve. Thus loosing all steering. Also the valve should be greased(zerk fitting on bottom), this is important with or without P/S operating.
All the hoses were removed but I have ordered all the components that I am missing. So is there suppose to be that big of a hole on the valve we’re the ball is? Most pics I have seekof them the ball isn’t even present is the hole suppose to b that big or worn away?
I took it off pretty much took everything apart to see that the issue was so u think just a rebuild kit would be fine if it’s just missing that dust shield
Here is link to eBay for Control Valve rebuild kit: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gates-Powe...ng+rebuild+kit&_from=R40&rt=nc&LH_TitleDesc=0 then you probably have to check or replace tie rods, idler arm, ball joints etc.........good luck! David
