Ok, I'm totally lost. I have been researching gas tanks for the last few days and I've seen the how to guide on making early Mustang tanks fit in the Maverick and I just cannot fully wrap my head around it. Are the 1964-1968 Mustang tanks designed to be a drop in and not an undermount like my 1971 Maverick OEM tank? I am in the process of installing a Sniper EFI system so I was contemplating buying the matching Holley EFI tank (designed for the 1965-1968 Mustang) but it looks like it would be roughly 4" wider and 2" shorter then my current tank. Also the 1969 Mustang tank looks like it is the same exterior dimensions but 2-1/2" deeper. What year Mustang tank is the easiest to install? I have been researching this so much that I'm starting to confuse myself.
they sell new 75-77 tanks at Advance auto, all you need is longer strap bolts and a vent valve. I put an e-fuel pump in mine. ...in-tank fuel pump for fuel injection... NEW 19 gallon fuel tank that has been "centered"
The Mustang tanks originally bolted top-down in the trunk floor, filling the hole in the floor. The best option is to go with the 76-77 tank, sending unit and straps along with the required vent-valve and grommet. We keep all these parts in stock at Melvin's Classic Ford Parts.
