Gday folks how are you all. I have a 1973 Ford Maverick here in Australia and i believe it was born a 6 cylinder and now has a 302 windsor with AOD transmission which i think was out of a Foxbody Mustang. It was imported to australia with all this done. Problem i have is when it revs the distributor retards instead of advances. Can anyone help me please. What needs changing and where can i find it.
    Cheers

Ahhh, that's a dist used with EEC-IV systems, has no advance. Normally the computer advances timing dependant on load, RPM, temp etc.

You are going to have to get either a Duraspark dist and module, or go with a aftermarket electronic dist of your choice. If you have a points dist for 302, it can be used to trigger the TFI module that's on the EEC dist.

BTW whatever dist you use it MUST have a steel(or bronze) gear to be compatible with the roller cam used in HO 5.0. The cast gears on std dist will be destroyed in 5-8K miles, spewing metal bits throughout the engine.

Thanks mate. I am waiting on a duraspark distributor to come. I reckon that will fix it.

Krazy Comet thanks for the advice. Mate this car of mine flys now. It is like a different car now. Hard part now is to drive to the speed limit.
    Thanks again.
