Hi all, I have a 74 Maverick with 250 i6. I want to get away from the 250 cylinder head with its casted inlet and potentially fit a head from the 300 i6 with bolt on arrangement. Firstly, will it fit? Secondly, I understand there may be a loss in compression if it does fit so can I compensate for that in any way? Also would anything else need to be changed? pushrods for example? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Totally different animals and they will not interchange. There is an aluminum head with separate intake available but I can't remember who offers it.

If you can develop a shrinker the 300 head may fit. It's probably at least two inches longer than 250.

The 250 is the largest of the small 6cyl developed for compact vehicles(first of series 144 & 170 used in '60 Falcons). The 240/300 debuted in '65, used in full size Fords, vans and trucks(used in the big brown trucks). The 240 was dropped for '73 when the 6cyl was no longer offered in full size Fords.

Thanks guys. Clears things up for me. Cylinder head from vintage inlines has been out of stock for some time so I will have to wait for availability. I’m also considering changing the 6 out for a v8, but was hoping I could do something a little different by improving the existing original engine.
