So today I dropped my tank because what was in the fuel filter was brown nastiness. While unbolting the tank, I came across the vent system that I have never seen before. Rubber lines were coming from the top of the tank and going to the drivers side fender for venting out I am assuming. Some of these hose connections are broken off. Is this system reproduced or do I need to get a "newer" style vent and run it so it will not vent in to the trunk. I have done some research and have not been able to find one but I figured I would ask the experts on here.
After cleaning out the tank, it is surprisingly in good shape, I am guessing somewhere down the line it has been replaced. Once it airs out, I will pour some alcohol in it to dry up any lingering water and get it ready to install.
I do have to order a new sending unit, as this one does not register anymore, hoping it is just the sending unit and not the gauge as well. Time will tell.

You have a California Emissions gas tank. Pretty much impossible to find part for. I would suggest getting the new repop tank that is out there and do away with all of the hoses.

That would make sense as this car was originally from Cali.
I hate to waste money to replace a good tank though.

So after reading and searching, apparently they did not repop the 70 tank, I am wondering if I can convert the existing vent hole to fit a newer style and run the vent tube that way? Will that cause problems with the plastic tubing that is inside the tank I wonder? There is a tank on Auto Krafters that says it is for the 70 but has the hole where the 3 way vent plugged up? Has anyone purchased it? If it is the correct one, how will it vent....through a vented fuel cap?

I removed the guts from inside the tank and welded a new vent in place of it , then had it sealed by gas tank re new, worked perfectly

They now repop the 1970 Maverick gas tank. It is the standard tank, not the California emissions tank. I would suggest getting this new tank and using a vented gas cap.
