Im not sure what this thing is called, but it goes from the clutch pedal to the transmission. How do I get this thing off? I took it off the underneath and unhooked from the clutch pedal. It will slide left and right but no way is it sliding off. It looks like it will hit the master cylinder when I pull the engine. Advice?

That is the Equalizer Arm (Z-bar), you will have to remove the 2 bolts on the frame, which secures the bracket, once bolts are removed, the bracket will slide off the z-bar and you can remove. Bolts should be 9/16", it is possible to remove working from top, but might be easier working from underneath, good luck!
