Finally tried starting my 302 up last night after sitting for months and months. Gas is likely bad. What’s the best way to drain the tank (half tank) so I can put a few gallons of fresh in there?
For last 55 years I've used a siphon hose, problem is one small enough to fit in the unleaded opening isn't large enough to drain very quickly. How does the fuel smell? IF it isn't rancid, engine should run fine. I have a old U-Haul box truck that hasn't had gas added since '13, it still ran last year. No guarantees on today.
I just bought a cheap electric fuel pump off eBay for 13 bucks. Gonna use it to drain what's left in the tank of a project car I'm working on. I think there's only 2 or 3 gallons in it at the most... https://www.ebay.com/itm/JDMSPEED-U...-85fd-4bf1-9b77-12aecdb21563&epid=21032293480
I always put a drain plug in all my tanks. while you have it out to clean it this would be a good time to install one...
I bought a hand pump from Harbor Freight and used it in mine. Hooked it up to the steel line coming out of drivers side fender. Worked great but is manual so you'll get a workout.
and what to do with 5-8 gallons of old stinky gas ? ... ... usually I mix with fresh for the Ferguson tractor (TO-20) which has @ 6:1 compression .
Well I got it all started up after cleaning the carb and I’ve burned through it all. It’s not THAT old. Good knowledge for future!
