Usually delayed engagement is due to valve body gaskets, bolts could be loose.

Hard seals in the forward clutch or low fluid level.

Just to clarify. Is it no 2-3 shift or no engagement?

I pulled the transmission out put new seals in the case for the kickdown lever check the valve body bolts on the way back in torqued them properly they weren't loose Now I've got a delay in the drive that could take anywhere from 1 to 20 minutes for it to go into drive once it goes into drive I'm good to go until I shut it off again no problems could happen one time could happen every time

Not what you want to hear but I would pull it out again and check the pump, Sounds like the pump gears got boogered with the new converter.
