Trying to recreate the L valve cover engine id decal for a kansas city built 72 grabber 302 auto no ac. I have no original engine id metal tag but have the original buildsheet. Build sheet shows K288S. My engine was built at the windsor plant in canada as the original block has the foundry stamp WF. I've researched out that there are 2 engine plants in windsor W1 and W2. I've also seen the osborne decal which calls out the Lima plant which is incorrect. Does anyone have a original photo of a windsor plant 302? Any input would be appreciated Thanks Lu

I'm not doubting your findings, but it's news to me that Windsor built 302 at all. In '66 & '67 they built 289 and for '68, 289 in 302 blocks(that have different casting number than Cleveland 302 blocks). For '69 production, Windsor switched to 351. Doesn't mean 302 production wasn't added later. BUT my '72 KC Comet 302 has CF on intake. Where did you find the block marking?

I looked at my orig 302(loosely assembled on stand) & even pulled intake, but didn't find a foundry symbol. Most I've seen were in the lifter valley. No idea where mine originated, had a head swap in it's past, tag missing. Were eliminated in '73. The valve cover decal came into being as with smog certification there was more info that could be placed on a small tag. K288S probably only indicates whether engine was for std or auto trans. For 428CJ, distributors & carbs differed with trans.

Finally found a original 72 engine tag from a 72 302 from KC. It has a C after the 302 designation. Tom was right these engines in 72 were built in Cleveland. The Valve cover sticker for my car should read C1 K288S in Black The Cleveland plant did not use the timing degree like Lima. Thanks for all those who chimed in.

I think Marti Auto Works can get you the correct sticker and metal tags.

I have dropped off numerous decals over the years for Jim Osborn Reproductions to make. If you can get an original decal in good shape to send them, give them a call and ask for David to work out the details. Their phone number is (770) 962-7556
