Thanks everyone for tips and insight. With the head off and on the ground with double layered, cellular cardboard under it, I placed a 1 foot 2x2 piece of pallet wood on all the valve springs separately and pushed on either side of wood. It took nearly all my weight in a push-up form to get them to move but they all did. I don't know if any were stuck to start with but I did whack the 2 springs in cylinder #1 1st with a rubber mallet (the suspect cylinder). I moved on to the push-up method because I couldn't tell if I was accomplishing anything. I put the head back on the block and adjusted the valves per the book. Now, the motor spins all the way around without binding. I did spin the motor after adjusting each cylinder's valves so I could narrow my focus in case of another bind. Now time to flip this thing over and plastigauge the journals and get the front sump oil pan and pump installed. Ya know this binding thing threw off my plan to just perform a leak down, swap parts and install it in the Mav. "best laid plans", I guess.
