i'm going through a qt. every 2-3 days. there are no spots on the drive way and i took care of that annoying peice of rope (rear main seal). and it does smoke a little in the cold mornings but not enough to lose that much. could it be the valve stem seals????? i didnt replace them when i pulled the valves out. and they where really hard. i even stoped using 20w-50 and went to 10w-40 cuz i thought it would help it also made me lose alot of oil pressure. one last ? does anyone make a high volume oil pump for a I6?
i can't believe your going through that much without seeing some smoke out the exhaust. gotta be going somewhere. have you checked the radiator to see if there's any oil showing in it. how long has this been going on?10-40 is thinner oil so your pressure will drop a little. i'd get underneath and see if any oil is pushing out when it is running. might have to let it sit and idle for a while in the driveway. good luck.
i dont think its the head gasket. i took the rad. cap off and gave it some gas and it didnt blow out. its been doing this for about 2 months now. and i havent done any thing to the motor lately. it leaks bad enough that at 160 degrees i have 0 psi. oil pressure at idle until i put another qt. in. i just dont understand whats happening. ??? ????
well also i was using LUCAS about a month ago but it seemed to smoke more in the mornings probably cuz of floating vavle stem seals. so i stop that. could my motor got addicted to the LUCAS??????
try rizlone... yellow plastic bottle oil additive......it quiets down the valve train and i used it on the trip from kentucky to arizona....and i was amazed at how quiet it made the engine.... now the lost oil.....only two places oil can go....on the block and on the road....or in the water.... 2 places is easy to trace.....look on the block around the valve covers for any grime..... clean it off....check in 2 days.... if its dirty again....you found it.....
Oil problem Have a friend follow you. Accelerate, back off of it in a lower gear. Sometimes they can smoke worse on deceleration. Ride around in general and have the friend follow to check for smoke. Chances are that is where it is going. Could be the rings, more likely in the valvetrain/seals. Good luck. Seth
yeah... what seth said...but after you decellerate, PUNCH IT!!!!!!!!!! if you have bad rings, this test will bring a cloud of smoke out of the rear. sounds to me like bad valve seals...
