get 2 10's in a dual box , it fits right as close to the seat as you can get.

audiobahn subwoofers are by far the best value for sound, they move more air...

Remember if you parallel two 4-ohm speakers for a load of 2-ohms that when you bridge a typical (class AB) two channel amplifier that the amplifier will usually combine the two channels and will see a load on both channels. Therefore resulting in the amplifier load of half the impedence or in this case 1-ohm. As Maverick Man states about a quality amp, this effective 1 ohm load can usually be maintained by a quality 2ohm stable amp as long as the effect of the enclosure on the impedence is compatable and you don't play square waves or constant tones for extended period of time. Since music is an AC waveform the amplifier is not subject to a constant impedence load. The enclosure style and size and immediate frequency also have a big effect on the impedence an amplifier "sees".

If you use a "mono-block" amplifier for your subs you will not have this bridging effect since it is a one channel amp and they are usually set up to take the more demanding loads that subwoofers put on an amp. Mono amps are usually of a class D design which is the topography of the amplifier and its effect on the ability to "switch" the transistors on and off. Class D has a narrow bandwidth (with one or two current exceptions that claim full range capability) and is typically more efficient at normal volume levels and use less current than class AB amplifiers of similar power but at some expense of sound quality but at low frequency this is not usually a concern for most people.

Low frequency adds a dimension to your sound that you usually only miss once you have discovered how awesome it is. Same reason most of us put V8s in our Mavs, once you have the power you want more. Speaker Size is not so much of an indicator of sound quality or output but like a good engine is dependent on many factors such as enclosure and speaker design/relationship and quality of components. The air does not know what size the speaker is, only the force and effect it has against it. If this effect is similar to the original device used to make the sound then we are satisfied. Luckily we can adjust the amout of force with a simple adjustment of the volume knob/button.

So like Maverick Man suggests, choose wisely and be informed before buying any audio equipment no matter how much your audio budget is.

Wow...lots of good sound advice here! My system is sort of simple I guess...a Sony ES head unit, 2 6" Infinty speakers in the kicks, 2 6X9's(Infinity also) in the rear, 2 10" JL subs in the trunk. The front speakers are run off the Sony head unit while the rears are run off a 200w Pioneer amp...and the subs are run off a 800w Sony mono amp...oh and I also have a mp3/cd changer in the trunk just for a bit more selection. Not very complicated but it sounds pretty good and cranks plenty loud!

Sorry folks. Didn't get on here last week. The 6 1/2 inch speakers went behind the kickpanels in the front. There are factory holes there. I speaker with a shallow mounting depth will make life easier in this location. As for the 6x9's, I found a dash panel for the rear in an old oldsmobile in a junkyard. It was covered in the same color vinyl/material as my seats. Picked it up just because I thought I could cut it to fit. Suprised me when it fit nearly perfectly. Before that I just had 2 6x9s in the back dash- factory location. The subs go in the trunk. I built my box to fit on the little "shelf/ledge" in the trunk so I could still fit the spare and other junk back there. I took out the insulation from behind the seat and the back dash so the sound carries better. I'm not really worried about the road noise, because my exhaust is so loud I have to have a good system to hear any music. To tell the truth, there are very few rattles outside of the car. Doesn't sound like the car is gonna fall apart when the bass hits. Does this help everybody?? Hope so, if ya'll need anything else, just let me know. Preston
