My steering shaft has had bad threads since Day #1 after removing and reinstalling the steering wheel a few times I guess I finally messed em up for good. This time around I had to force the steering wheel nut back on and it took alot of torque to get it down, had to so I could drive the car. Been meaning to put another shaft in for awhile now but haven't had the $$$$ or the time. I was wondering how difficult it is to change it out do I have to remove the whole column cause i'd rather not if I don't have to.

It slides out from the bottom so you have to remove the whole column. Why dont you just buy a die and clean the threads up?

You know to be honest I got to thinkin about a Tap and Die set after I posted the thread :), probably should get one good idea to have around when you're dealing with an old car I guess. The next time i'm able to buy any tools I will check Harbor Freight they usually have good deals on items like that. Anything to avoid having to remove the column because I hate dealing with Steering Columns.

Learn from my mistake. I bought a tap & die set from Harbor Freight and about 80% of the pieces were unusable, cheap junk. Naturally, the size I needed most urgently wouldn't cut at all. As with most things, you get what you pay for.
