When my Sprint was new, the max I ever got out of it was around 94. Thats was also slight down hill with a tail wind. 200 cu /3 spd.
When I first bought my 74' it had a 250 I-6 and I couldn't get it past 70, motor was a slug, it chugged, knocked, and stalled (sounded like the motor was beating its head on the shock tower, poped the hood and it looked like it too) Put a 302 in it you wont regret it! The only reason to keep the 250 is for gas mileage and thats gonna get so cheap people will be giving it away.
Well my 3 on the floor 200- 6 powered `72 mav would top out at 105 m.p.h. back when I was 16 and stupider than I am now! :16suspect
Heh, I get better milage with my 302 than I ever did with my first Comet with a 200... but there was something weird about that 200. Never would go over 70 and took forever to get there, the previous 200 would hit 90+.
I used to have a '74 Mav with the 250 straight 6 and it would only do 100. Only once I got it past that at 105 going downhill.
I never put my old 200 much past 90. I may have gone 92 or so but she was wound out at that point. Not bad for a motor with a stuck lifter and a burnt valve. Preston
and G.A.H.D. Gravity Assisted Hill Descent....... i had a 170 cid in mine...and it would barely do 80....sounded like it was gonna thorw 5 rods at that speed... i kept it at 60 and it purred and got 35 mpg...
It was well beyond that. Remanufactured engine, never ran right, rebuilt the carb, replaced the carb, checked the exhaust, etc... went through from the top to bottom except inside the engine as to avoid warranty issues. Really nice torque below 2500rpms, nothing over at all. Lasted about 18 years and 10,000 miles.
