ok well i have been working onmy motor for awhile now off and on, this weekend i finally got a welder so i could weld up the exaust, i had blew a head gasket on break-in of a completely brand new engine. well i got it all done yesterday and i couldnt get it to idle smooth, it has been balanced and everything. i played with the timing forever and still no difference, i got out the carb cleaner and started spraying around the vacuum fittings and carb base, when i got to the egr block-off plate it made a wierd "pop" noise and started idleing perfect imediatly afterwards and it has been since, i got to looking a little closer and found the aluminum block-off plate was cracked, and one of the intake bolt heads is broken off, might have been the wierd poping noise i heard? i am going to pull the intake, and replace the bolt and new gaskets, would there be a problem with using 1/4 plate to replace my block-off plate??? also after spraying the carb cleaner and everything running smoothly now, should i be concerned that it all the sudden started working perfect??
could the pop have been the plate craking and causing a vacumm leak, maybe you carb is to rich & thats why it runs good now??does this sound possible to you guy's?
it was running bad before the pop, then after it is fine now. the carb is off of my daily driver and it was running perfect. i guess i will just run it, im just a little weary with all the $$$$ i have tied up into the new motor
Well I Pulled My Intake Off This Weekend To Get The Broken Bolt Out And Found One Of My Pushrods Jumped Off Of The Lifter, Why Would It Do That? And Why Did It Run So Smooth Afterwards? The Wierd Pop I Heard Had To Of Been The Rod Hitting The Underside Of The Valve Cover. What Could Be Wrong With Tahat Cylinder That Made It Run Like Crap, Then When The Pushrod Jumped Off It Started Running Smooth? Please Help!!!
Man, I wish I could help you. Someone here might be able to, but it won't be me. I DO want to know the answer that would explain it. Good Luck!! Preston
is the "off" pushrod an intake or exhaust? I would suspect a bent/sticking valve. The valve will go down, but is slow coming back up, and the pushrod can come off.
it was the intake side, the heads are newly rebuilt, how can i check to see if the valve is bent? i ordered a new pushrod, lifter, and rocker arm i have not put the intake back on, this motor has been a nightmare!!! i just want to get it on the road!!!
ok up to date now, i pulled the valve cover to find that the rocker arm had actually broken off, ok so i replace the lifter, rocker arm, and pushrod and this thing is back to running like crap again, this is driving me insane! what is going on here? this is a brand new motor! could this be a flat cam lobe or what? please help!!!i blew a head gasket while breaking the motor in, it has zero miles on it, i just got the motor in, blew the head gasket, i have had nothing but probs with this motor!, i have built about 10 motors completely and this one is the first one to ever give me fits like this!!!
