In the April issue of Car Craft magazine, the "In & Out" list starts out with; In: Ford Mavericks Out: Ford Escorts I'm not really sure how to think about equating us in the same sentence as an Escort, but at least we are "in"!!
yay!1 i have been seein a LOT more mavs. lately..let the skyrocketing of value and tidal wave of aftermarket parts begin..lol..(wishful thinking)
I have been seeing more often then this year then last. I just saw a nice white one and theres another guy with one at my school whos getting a shelby drop.
In? In? In? When were they out? Everybody at my school seems to think they are cooler than any honda out there!!! And ours isnt even fast! Congrats maverick - for finally getting some recognition.
Here in Sebastopol, the Hondas, Acuras, and other imports are pretty much the wanted vehicle as far as High School students go. I was the only guy who had a Mav, but then another guy got a Grabber, and brought it to school before me, and now thinks he was the first one. Anyway, not many people have old cars at all here. There are a few old Mustangs, a couple Camaros/Firebirds, and then the 2 Mavs. I wish there were more, but then again, it's kind of cool having a car not many others have. A bunch of people were curious as to why in the world I was fixing up a Maverick. Why not a Mustang? Now that it is almost done they seem to think it's pretty cool. I wish more people had good sense like us! -Corbin
The mavs have always been IN as far as I can tell. When I started high school in 93 I fell in love with Mavericks. The coolest car in our parking lot was a teal blue 71 Mav. A couple months later I had my project started. Then one of my parts cars turned into my friends daily drivers. A year later and there were 4 Mavericks in the school. The blue one was voted one of the coolest cars in school. I am the only one of the four that still has their maverick. I always thoght there was something wrong with me but I guess I was just ahead of the times.
Hey Corbin what did you mean by here like at your high school or like just your hometown? And yeah my friends say my car is crappy and old and the engine is a 200 so they thinks its gonna be slow bu twill see soon what they'll think when i paint and put an engine in that makes them get goose bumps im so excited!!!!
Well, I meant mostly my High School, but around my town 80% of all cars are 90s and up. Probably another 15% are 80s, and then the rest are 70s and 60s. Some people have nice old cars they don't drive much, but as far as cars on the road go, there aren't many old ones at all. It is very sad. Most people around here don't even appreciate old cars (Or let their daughter ride in one. Sucks for me, but I told them that I built the car for none other than myself. My girlfriend's parents say she can't ride in it because it doesn't have airbags. Pretty lame excuse because first I am a better (and safer!) driver than both of them, and I just spent a long time, and a pile of money building my car, so not like the first thing I would do is go out and go 100 on curves, and country roads. I refuse to have them drive me in their cars, and they won't let me take her anywhere in mine, so I brought up the point that it will be interesting to see how we get to school dances, etc. if there is no way for us to get there together. Sorry for venting, but I haven't been able to talk with anyone other than my parents (who agree with me), and them, who don't understand why I don't just sell the Mav and get a new car. First, I can't afford that, and most importantly, I don't want to. Thanks for listening to my dreary story. Anyone else have a similar experience? I hope not, because it sucks!) The town is getting bigger, and progressively more snotty. -Corbin
Hmm.... Old steel car vs. New plastic car. I wonder who is gonna win that one! Your maverick would rip any new car to shreds and as long as she wears her seatbelt there is really no reason you need airbags. I had a Sunfire run into my driver door, it put a really weird dent in my door and totally messed up the front of the Sunfire. It didn't even break my window but her car suffered alot of damage. Airbag or not, your girlfriend is safer in the Mav than a new car, unless your car is a rust bucket, which I don't think it is from the pics. I could go on and on about how much crap I have run into through my teen years with my maverick, I have alot of trust in these cars.
None here... The only ones that I see in the Raleigh/Durham area of NC are the ones that I know aren't for sale or people whom I know (very few). I haven't seen one on the road here in 6 months or so. Seth
