Anyone know why there are 2 lines coming out here? They run side by side going under the firewall.

I havent had a chance to climb under the car yet to see where they go. I attached a pic of the lines.

Thought maybe you guys would know! The trans is in a '73 302 automatic.

    Thanks guys!

I know that:) But why do I have 2? Everyone else I talk to says there should only be one.

I just want to make sure I hook them up properly. Can I hook them both up to the same vacuum source?

    Modulators

I found that there are single diaphram (one vacuum line) and dual diaphram (two vacuum lines) modulators out there (one of the vacuum lines goes to the center of the modulator, over the screw that you can adjust to retart the timing of your shifting, then a place to plug the second line around the rim of the modulator)..... my FMX had a dual diaphram modulator on it, but when I replaced it, I put a single diaphram modulator on it, and got rid of one of the vacuum lines.

I never knew there was modulators with 2 lines. Learn something new everyday.

The breather isn't hooked up to vacume.
The breather is usually on the top of the transmission and doesnt have any type of line going to it.

    Ok, so should I

1- just replace the mod with a single
2- plug up one of the lines
    OR
3- hook up both of the lines?

I'd just follow the lines to where they go, then go from there
If they both go to a vacume source (sure they do) then just plug them up and go from there.
If you have problems with shifting points, just replace it with a single one, and plug it up to a vacume source.
My 2 cents on it

I just checked autozone.com to see how much it would be to replace.

Apparently the 2 diaphragm is for cars with the EGR and the single is for cars witout the EGR. I am not gonna run the EGR with the new intake and carb, so there goes that!

So, I'm gonna take andy's suggestion and hook it up and check out how it runs.

That sounds right, because around the time that I changed the modulator, I had also gone from EGR to NON-EGR..... but didn't remember one of those lines going into the EGR, until now.

Think it would be best to just plug up one of the tubes?

Yeah, I don't think it would hurt at all. Just plug one the one coming from the EGR, then the one you don't plug up, plug it into the back of the Mod. Valve. Make sure that you plug and use the correct one though. My two lines were a little different, in that one had a white stripe (the one I used) and the other didn't, so I just plugged it, until I removed it later.
