I was just reading a thread about a potential parts car that was crushed the day before people could get there to get parts. How many good Mavericks and Comets are getting crushed, how many Satallions, Sprints, Grabbers, GT's are lost simply because the Junkyards don't know there are actually people who would like parts, or to buy entire Cars to restore. My Idea, Most Junkyards are Connected by a search service of one type or another, is there a way to get an Electronic "Petition" that all of us here, all of us in MCCI and even the guys with C.A.M.E.O, ( Any other Clubs?) could "sign on" to, to which we could ultimately send out to Junkyards across the US? If I can Search a part over thousands of Junkyards, isn't there away we could send a message to those junkyards? "Put them on notice", that we Mav Comet Enthusiasts are here.. and want those cars, they call Junk? Could the same be done, to show aftermarket companies we are here?, recently just on this site we had people "sound off on the number of Mavs and Comets represented here, Is that number up over 400 yet? Is MCCI advertising anywhere?
GUys Found an "interesting" site, lots of junk, but look closely some really good parts on some of these cars. http://www.classiccarsrotting.com THere are several Mavs and I think one or 2 comets
That is correct....I have a standing order with all the area junkyards to bring the car to me. I go through it with a fine tooth comb and take off every salvageable part, and then I call the junk yard and they come get what's left. As far as a nationwide petition thing......I can tell you exactly what it takes......MONEY!! It takes somebody (like myself) willing to pay a junkyard MORE for a car that the metal scrappers will. With the rising price of steel...it takes more and more MONEY to do this. Most yards are not willing to take the part off for you, box it up, ship it to you, etc.....when the metal scrapper is standing there telling the junk yard: "I'll give you $75 - $100 per ton for each car in here....and I'll do all the work". That is all it takes.
what i did here in ga. was, i did a "search" for all the junk yards in ga. then i call them from time to time to ask for mav./comet parts. i have several that hold the cars now untill i check with them. i also gave them my phone # so if anyone comes looking for parts and he doesn't have them they can call me...if we call enough times then they will see there is a market for thes parts...frank...
Eeek...that cars rotting page reminds me of finding dead bodies in the woods! It's just eerie seeing all those cars covered over in the woods like that...I guess that's what it really is.
I'm still learning, but one thing I do know when Craig talks listen! I spend way too much time searching for cars in my area. No luck with computer connected yards at all. I started asking service stations in small towns about private unlisted yards. That has worked. Still, most have told me they used to have some but they sat for years before they crushed them. I know where you can get an early model grabber for sale in a yard. But are you willing to drive to Texas for an over priced rusty complete car? Or how bout this? 74 Comet GT, 100% complete, all original, but very rusty. This is a complete car for sale only. I'm going to take pictures of this car today and post it on the cars for sale forum. However I'm not sure anyone is willing to pay $2600 for this car. Let alone travel to Kansas to pick it up. I just want eveyone on this board to know this car is out there. I fear being laughed at, but want the boards reaction. Be careful what you wish for, if all of the salvage yards out there know there are 1000+ potential customers, parts values will rise dramatically increase. Imo ebay has created somewhat higher supply than demand.
Good Information, and good points guys, the last comments about prices rising , very true, it's really a " catch-22" you tell them there is demand, prices rise, on the other hand, you don't tell them there is demand, and that decent GT or Grabber hood becomes part of a 2005 Chevy Aveo ( gads) anyway, I see all your points guys, and there are good suggestions, on getting the word out locally about a market for parts, A side note, is there anyone, In Iowa that represents MCCI, ? ANyone here know?
yikes, just seeing that rotting car website makes me wanna cry....... why ??????????? so many good cars just going to waste!
