Ran when it was pulled but has been sitting for several years.
I would personally rebuild it before using it, but then again I hate doing things more than once.

    My grandpa has a 428 Cobra Jet Mustang, so I'm guessing a 429 isn't.

They did produce a 429 Cobra Jet that was used in the Mustangs, Torinos and Cyclones etc. Cobra Jet was a name placed on the engine with the name came various changes like 4 bolt main blocks etc. The 427 never carried the Cobrajet name (didn't need too)

The engine I have is a standard 429-4v that came out of a 73 Mercury Colony Park Station Wagon.

I have a 428 Cobra Jet engine in my garage that came from a 69 Cyclone CJ. I can tell you they are fast. But to try to put one in a Maverick or Comet would take a big hammer. They dont call them big blocks for nothing. I have been saving this engine to put in a mustang or maybe a 64 Fairlane to make Thunder Bolt clone.

    Hmmm....a 429 debate!

Previous post is correct, 429 and 460 are the same engine
    family.
The other previous post re: 'Cobra Jet' is correct, there was
    first a 428 CJ and then a 429 CJ.

I have been around plenty of big blocks, plenty of them.
I'd take the FE(Ford Edsel) motor over the 385 series anytime.
The 385(429 & 460) seems to have a heavier rotating assembly.

When built correctly, the FE (352,360,390,406,427,428) engines
can put out a ton of torque and HP in a beautiful curve.
The lower cid's posted are less performance minded and the
427 is radically different. Edelbrock and some others make nice
performing aluminum heads for these engines.

I have seen some stealthy 460's, but it took a ton of work to
get them to perform up to the standards of some of the
427's that were slightly modified from factory specs. Keep
in mind that the 427 was race minded as built. The 428 CJ
used 427 style heads and was a torque monster.

    Good luck with your conversion.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but if you didn't already know that you couldn't use a C4 with a 429, then you don't know enough yet to make this swap. Like others have said, it's not just a drop in kind of thing. You need major suspension, drivetrain, and braking upgrades to pull it off. Sorry, I don't want to sound like a jerk, but you said you needed to know asap.

Yup, the 427/428 FE style engine only won Lemans two years in a row and powered some of the most legendary performance Fords all thoughout the 60s! Must be a real weak sister.

Man, what an ignorant comment....sorry if that sounds harsh. :(
