Does anyone have/know of where I can get the location
for the rear spoiler holes in the trunk lid? I have a nice spoiler
and all the parts to attach it, but I don't want to just eye ball
it and drill holes. Is there a measurement from the deck lid edge
or something to follow? This is a '71 Maverick.

flip your spoiler over and make yourself a template from posterboard or something..is it a grabber spoiler or aftermarket..should work either way..good luck:huh:

    Grabber

It's Grabber spoiler, flipping it over and making a template sounds
easier than it is. I can figure out the spacing of the holes without
a problem, it's the distance from the deck lid edge thats the problem.
You can't just lay the spoiler on the deck lid, mark the location and
start drilling. If that makes sense. Even if I had the distance from the
edge of the deck lid to the front edge of the spoiler hole would probably
do the trick. Easy enough to figure out the center if it's a 1" hole like
I've been reading in the other threads.

Craig Selvey has a great template to mark the holes with. Made of metal. He sends it out to MCCI members for the cost of shipping. Look Craig up in the members directory.

Just set the spoiler along the back edge of the trunk and mark where the posts are. Then drill 1" holes at the very edge of the deck lid where it transitions from vertical to horizontal.

I took my spoiler and centered it from side to side, then rubbed the screws up and down until it left marks in the primer on the tail edge. Bought a 1" metal hole saw, and center-punched the tangential edge of the tail where the scratches were. Perfect, but not too scientific. But hey, I only got two years of engineering, before going into Psychology...

Or for only $50.00, I can sell you a very good, used Grabber trunklid with the holes precut from the factory. It's not worth the time to cut them for fifty bucks... Plus shipping of course.

This is the method I used ... Got me about 99% of the way there ... then you have to do a little tweeking of the holes to get it flush.

I guess I'm not very good at drilling because I could not drill a clean 1" hole on the lip with a holesaw drill no matter how hard I tried. I ended up drilling holes about 1/2" or so then used a grinder to make clean 1" holes.

I was gonna buy one of those UNIBITs to do my spoiler holes but couldn't find one locally that large ... these are a very handy tool ...

The holes are actually pretty easy to cut. The hole-saw needs to be for metal (not wood) and all you need is a tape-measure. I didn't even need a template. I had an original Grabber trunk lid but decided to just use my original. Measure the distance between the mounting pedestals on the spoiler and mark them on the very edge (right ON the edge) of the trunk lid, and drill the holes. They should come out fairly clean but do not need to be 100% clean as they will never be seen once the spoiler is bolted on...
